WatchYouTube Just announced on the official YouTube Partners and Creators Blog (yeah, first time I’ve heard it too) that they’re adjusting their search algorithm to reward more engaging videos. What this mean is: the longer people watch your video, the better you can expect that video to rank in YouTube’s search engine. (more…)

October 17, 2012 by Wayne Icard | No Comments | Filed in News, SEO

So Google has finally launched that disavow tool that they announced several months ago and I’ve got to say: It’s not at all what I expected it to be. When I first read about this tool I expected something that works quickly and easily to tidy up a link profile. Instead we got a slow pain in the ass that will probably benefit Google’s spam team more than webmasters. (more…)

Google’s Matt Cutts on Guest Posting For Links

October 11, 2012 by Wayne Icard | No Comments | Filed in Blogging, News, SEO, Traffic

Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s web spam team came out on Tuesday in a Webmaster Help video to discuss Google’s view on guest blogging for links. Google scared a lot of people with that update and everyone’s jumping on the guest posting bandwagon. This is evident from the growing number of bloggers complaining about poor quality guest posts being sent to them. There’s also a growing number of webmasters freaking out and trying to clean up their link profiles. (more…)

Danny Goodwin of Search Engine Watch was covering SES San Francisco on Wednesday while Matt Cutts was on stage with Danny Sullivan, Brett Tabke, and Mike Grehan. They talked about Knowledge Graph, Panda, Penguin, Transparency, etc. If you’re interested in hearing about all that stuff click here. There was some pretty interesting stuff in there but, the part about social signals reminded me of something I’ve been wanting to post about for a while. So here goes. (more…)

Google’s Considering Discounting Infographic Links

July 31, 2012 by Wayne Icard | No Comments | Filed in News, SEO, Traffic

Eric Enge recently interviewed the head of Google’s web spam team, a.k.a. Matt Cutts where they discussed what people usually discuss with Matt – SEO. They talked about link building, the Penquin update, and making your content better than your competition’s. The usual. It’s actually a good read but, I’ve heard most of it before(many times). Then infographics came up and the conversation got a little fresher. (more…)
