YouTube Just announced on the official YouTube Partners and Creators Blog (yeah, first time I’ve heard it too) that they’re adjusting their search algorithm to reward more engaging videos. What this mean is: the longer people watch your video, the better you can expect that video to rank in YouTube’s search engine. (more…)

So Google has finally launched that disavow tool that they announced several months ago and I’ve got to say: It’s not at all what I expected it to be. When I first read about this tool I expected something that works quickly and easily to tidy up a link profile. Instead we got a slow pain in the ass that will probably benefit Google’s spam team more than webmasters. (more…)
Google’s Matt Cutts on Guest Posting For Links

Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s web spam team came out on Tuesday in a Webmaster Help video to discuss Google’s view on guest blogging for links. When I first saw the headline in my Twitter feed I was kinda nervous because right now guest posting is my preferred way to promote a new site. I also think guest blogging is generally something that’s really cool. I think the video turned out to be good news for bloggers who are focused on adding value to the net and not focused on cranking out “good enough” articles that look like they belong in an article directory. Even Good Sites Are Getting Link Removal Requests

Since Penguin came out, there definitely seems to be a growing disinterest in link spam from link networks and the like. Google scared a lot of people with that update and everyone’s jumping on the guest posting bandwagon. This is evident from the growing number of bloggers complaining about poor quality guest posts being sent to them. Eric Enge recently interviewed the head of Google’s web spam team, a.k.a. Matt Cutts where they discussed what people usually discuss with Matt – SEO. They talked about link building, the Penquin update, and making your content better than your competition’s. The usual. It’s actually a good read but, I’ve heard most of it before(many times).
